Health and safety policy
The OSS Group tries to ensure that all its activities are conducted with proper regard for the health, safety and welfare of its employees and anyone else who may be affected by our activities, including customers, contractors and the public.
It is our intent to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all applicable health and safety legislation. We are committed to the progressive improvement of health and safety standards in all aspects of our business.
Our health and safety policy
We acknowledge and are committed to the guiding principles of developing and maintaining a sound health and safety culture within our organisation. We will strive to ensure that our business activities are conducted and managed in such a manner so as to preserve, as far as practicably possible, the health, safety and welfare of our employees. This undertaking is also extended to visitors, customers, contractors, or members of the general public who visit or work at any of our facilities in the UK.
Our objectives are:
- to demonstrate a visible commitment to the management of Health and Safety and to resource it as we would any other critical business activity
- to monitor our safety performance against the realistic targets we set ourselves and report our progress at Board meetings
- to achieve a progressive improvement of Health and Safety standards across all aspects of our business
- to comply with all Health and Safety legislation, Approved Codes of Practice and formal guidance that is applicable to our business activities
- to develop, provide and thereafter continue to assess safe systems of work for our employees and contractors
- to maintain all plant, vehicles, equipment and buildings to the highest possible standard
To achieve these objectives, we will:
- undertake task-related risk assessments, facility safety audits and hazardous substances assessments
- investigate reported accidents, incidents and near hits occurring in the workplace and take positive action to prevent a recurrence
- ensure the adequate provision of training and any other resources that are necessary to enable our employees to undertake their responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner
- communicate and consult with employees about health, safety and welfare issues of mutual concern
- develop and maintain a Health and Safety training programme for operational managers and Safety Representatives
- provide information and practical support to our customers and contractors whenever it is required, to enhance their own safety performance
- closely manage the work activities of our Contractors when engaged on our premises, or those of our customers
